Kaze: Stay Humble as Chiefs Soar in the League

Following back-to-back league victories, Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has urged his players to stay grounded and not get carried away by their recent run of form.

Chiefs recorded two consecutive league wins for the first time since August after hammering Orbit College 4-1 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, a result that moved them joint top of the Betway Premiership standings.

Amakhosi are now on 22 points after 11 matches, level with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who lead on goal difference.

The victory over Orbit College was also Chiefs’ third successive win in all competitions, following their triumph over Durban City last Friday and their CAF Confederation Cup qualification victory against AS Simba.

With confidence growing in the camp and fans celebrating the team’s resurgence on social media, Kaze cautioned against complacency, stressing that the season is still long and consistency will be key.

“When you’re in good form, you naturally want to keep it going,” said Kaze. “But we’ve had a lot of games, and mentally, the players need to take some pressure off.

The most important thing is that everyone must keep their feet on the ground. We have to stay humble and work very hard because we have not arrived yet.”

Kaze added that the team must remain focused despite the excitement surrounding their recent performances.

“I know that here, if you win one game, you’re the god of football; if you lose one, you’re a plumber or whatever,” he joked. “But in this situation, we need to be clear with our message to the players — stay humble, keep working, and maintain the momentum because the season is still very long.”

After the international FIFA break, Kaizer Chiefs will return to action against Magesi FC on 22 November at Seshego Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00, but it might be moved to a bigger venue given the Chiefs’ form.
