Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo has been announced as one of the assistant coaches for the Carling All Stars team that will face Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
The Carling All Stars will be led by champion coach Bonginkosi Chonco, alongside head coach Manqoba Mngqithi of Golden Arrows.
Khumalo will serve as one of the assistant coaches, joining Evangelos Vellios of Stellenbosch.
These coaches will guide the All Stars against a Pirates side that recently lifted the Carling Knockout Cup, defeating Marumo Gallants in extra time at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Relebohile Mofokeng scored the match’s only goal in the 105th minute, securing the Soweto giants their first Carling Knockout title since the 2011/12 season.
Pirates will now attempt to achieve what no team has done before—win the Carling Cup in Durban, marking the competition’s third year of existence.
The All Stars have won the Carling Cup in each of the past two seasons, defeating the Carling Knockout winners on both occasions—Stellenbosch and Magesi, respectively.
The Carling All Stars squad is selected by fans from across the 15 Premier Division clubs, including players from the DStv Diski Challenge.
