Kolisi Celebrates Rugby Championship Win: A Tribute to Team Spirit!

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus and captain Siya Kolisi praised the team for their fight

The Springboks clinched the Castle Lager Rugby Championship trophy for the second consecutive season, defeating Argentina 29-27 in a thrilling match at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham. The team overcame an early 13-3 deficit, displaying resilience and determination as they fought back to take a 15-13 lead shortly after halftime.

Erasmus and Kolisi expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support, while also acknowledging the challenges ahead of their November tour. Erasmus reflected on the performance, stating, “I’m satisfied with the result and winning the Castle Lager Rugby Championship back-to-back. This was a massive game for us, and although it was a far from perfect performance, I would prefer to see us learn while we are winning than losing.”

Despite the victory, both coach and captain noted the tough road ahead and the need for improvement. Erasmus highlighted the quality of the Argentine team, saying, “They defeated Australia, New Zealand, and the British & Irish Lions, so we’ll celebrate tonight and take that positive from this match.”

Throughout the match, the Springboks faced intense pressure from Argentina, with Erasmus recognizing the physicality of the game and the strong finish from the opposition. Kolisi reflected on the halftime message, emphasizing the need for unity and discipline in their play.

Kolisi identified the team's character and fight as crucial elements of their success, crediting coach Erasmus for instilling a winning mentality. “This team has done a lot for the country, and I’m proud of the group and the coaches,” he remarked, acknowledging the significance of lifting the trophy again.

“This Castle Lager Rugby Championship was tough, and anyone could have won it,” Kolisi concluded. “To be able to lift the trophy for the second time in a row is amazing for us and the country, and we are very grateful for all the support from all the fans at the stadium and from our people at home.”
