Rugby World Cup Champions South Africa Recognize Malcolm Marx's Achievements
This weekend, South Africa's rugby team celebrated an individual achievement as Malcolm Marx was honored with the World Rugby Player of the Year award.
Marx triumphed over fellow Springboks Ox Nche and Pieter-Steph du Toit, along with France's Louis Bielle Biarrey, to claim the prestigious title. This marks his second nomination for the award, joining South African legends Schalk Burger, Bryan Habana, and Pieter-Steph du Toit as recipients.
Teammate Jesse Kriel reflected on the significance of this recognition, stating, “You could see the reaction when he won the award. He is one of the most humble people I have ever played rugby with. He’s an extremely hard worker – very talented, very humble, and a great teammate. He always puts the team first. He’s had an unbelievable year and really deserves the award.”
Kriel also highlighted the team's ethos of always looking forward, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication towards upcoming challenges, including their next Test match.
“It’s special,” Kriel remarked, “the great thing about this team is that we don’t dwell on the past or the things we have achieved. It’s about the next training session and getting the job done.”
Despite their remarkable accomplishments, the team remains united and grateful, acknowledging the efforts of coaches, medical staff, and those working behind the scenes.
“We’re proud of the team, proud of the work the coaches put in every day, the medical staff, the guys on the field. It’s a combined effort,” Kriel noted, giving credit to those whose contributions often go unrecognized.
As the Springboks approach their final international fixture of the season, they aim to maintain their unbeaten streak and conclude the year on a high note.
