League of Legends Goes Dark After Digital License Mishap

In a surprising turn of events, the popular MOBA League of Legends became temporarily unplayable due to an expired digital license.

The digital certificate, which verifies the game's authenticity, was valid from January 7, 2016, until January 4, 2026. As the clock struck midnight on Sunday, the certificate became void, rendering the game unbootable.

Resourceful players found a workaround by adjusting their system clocks back to a date before the expiration. While this trick reinstated functionality for League of Legends, it posed risks of disrupting other applications.

Fortunately, as of now, the issue has been resolved, leaving fans amused by the glitch. A survey from a digital security firm noted that nearly half of companies questioned faced outages due to expired digital certificates, illustrating the fragility of digital services.

League of Legends is gearing up for a significant overhaul, with a revamped version expected in 2027. More details will be released in the coming months. Additionally, the game is introducing a new seasonal structure to engage its player base.
