Leicesterford City Dismiss Coach After Disappointing Defeats

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Leicesterford City have parted ways with head coach Stan Nkoane.

The decision follows a poor run of form, with the club suffering back-to-back heavy defeats — a 5-0 loss to the University of Pretoria and a 4-0 drubbing by Lerumo Lions.

Although City currently sit seventh on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log and are not in immediate danger of relegation, the recent results prompted the club’s management to make a change.

The Limpopo-based side has collected 13 points from nine matches, winning four, losing four, and drawing one.

Nkoane joined Leicesterfield City at the start of the season after the club purchased the status of JDR Stars. Last season, he was in charge of Venda FC, where he successfully steered the team clear of relegation to the amateur ranks.

Brought in for his wealth of experience, Nkoane has previously worked with Baroka FC and Sekhukhune United, helping the latter gain promotion to the PSL during the 2021/22 season.

He also holds a special place in South African football history, having guided the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) to a famous Nedbank Cup victory over top-flight side Golden Arrows in the 2019/20 season — a first for a fourth-tier team.

It remains to be seen who Leicesterfield City, nicknamed Tau Tsa Monoka, will appoint as Nkoane’s replacement. His departure marks the second coaching change in just a few days in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, following Dan Malesela’s dismissal by fellow Limpopo outfit Baroka FC.
