As the market for handheld gaming PCs expands, Lenovo introduces the Legion Go 2, now equipped with SteamOS. This addition comes hot on the heels of the Legion Go S, which also features SteamOS, tailored for users seeking a robust gaming experience similar to that of the Steam Deck. The Legion Go 2 promises to deliver superior hardware and ergonomics, including dedicated controllers akin to those of the popular Nintendo Switch. Set to launch in June, the Legion Go 2 will start at a price point of $1,199.
While preorders are not yet available, expect listings on major retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon soon. In terms of specifications, the Legion Go 2 provides significant value compared to its counterparts. The premium version boasts an AMD Z2 Extreme processor, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB SSD, all powered by a reliable 74Wh battery. Meanwhile, the base model features the AMD Z2 SoC, along with 16GB of RAM and a similar storage setup.
One of the standout features of both models is the remarkable 8.8-inch PureSight OLED display, known for its vibrant colors and smooth visuals with a 144Hz refresh rate supported by variable refresh rates (VRR). Additionally, the detachable TrueStrike controllers enhance versatility, allowing users to easily switch between handheld, tabletop, console, or FPS formats.
SteamOS not only provides a more fluid user experience but also optimizes performance for gaming, albeit at the cost of sticking solely to the Steam library. This limits flexibility compared to Windows 11 machines, which can access multiple storefronts. For those who prefer Windows, options are still available through Best Buy, including an alternative Legion Go 2 model running Windows 11 or a more compact version, the Legion Go S, which retails at a lower price.
