In a stunning turn of events, Lil Durk's long-awaited murder-for-hire trial has once again been pushed back. A California judge granted a continuance on Monday, shifting the originally planned date from January 20 to May 4. This delay stems from the immense amount of evidence that needs to be examined, with court documents revealing that hundreds of gigabytes of digital material are involved.
The court emphasized that the complexity of the case, which includes multiple defendants, makes it unreasonable to expect adequate preparation within the strict time frames set by the Speedy Trial Act. Lil Durk’s team voiced their opposition to the delay, stressing their eagerness to proceed, but most other defendants are leaning towards having more time to prepare.
Lil Durk has been in custody since October 2024, after his arrest in Florida on serious charges including conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and using a firearm in connection with a violent crime.
Why Is Lil Durk In Jail?
Durk faces accusations of orchestrating the attempted murder of rival rapper Quando Rondo in 2022, an incident that led to the tragic death of Rondo's cousin, Saviay'a "Lul Pabb" Robinson. Durk has consistently denied any involvement in this heinous act.
Recently, prosecutors reaffirmed their intent to call several cooperating witnesses to testify. They claim that the evidence supports these witnesses' testimonies that Lil Durk ordered the violent act in Los Angeles, utilized intermediaries for the execution, and even promised rewards for its completion.
