Lil Durk's lawyer, Christy O'Connor, has revealed that the rapper has been enduring a harrowing four months in solitary confinement. In a recently filed court motion, Durk's legal team claims this severe punishment stems from jail officials alleging he possessed an Apple Watch, which they argue violates his constitutional rights by placing him in isolation "without process."
According to the court filings, "[Lil Durk] is confined to a very small jail cell, just large enough for a single bed, a toilet, and a sink, for 23 hours a day.” This restricted environment leaves him without access to commissary, limited to just one phone call a month, and deprived of in-person visits—a situation detrimental to any inmate's mental well-being.
In support of their claims, Durk's legal team cites a study from the American Public Health Association highlighting the adverse effects on mental health endured by inmates in solitary confinement. The findings reveal alarming symptoms of depression, anxiety, and social isolation—factors that raise concerns about the serious implications on inmates’ overall psychological health.
“Mr. Banks’ defense team is increasingly worried that his prolonged solitary confinement may violate the Eighth Amendment's prohibition on ‘cruel and unusual punishment’,” the filing further states, underlining the seriousness of his current situation.
Lil Durk's Thoughts on Friendship
On a more personal note, Lil Durk recently took to Instagram to express his feelings about losing touch with friends amidst his struggles. "Crazy how you gotta wait until it's dark out to see who really with you", he lamented in an emotionally charged post.
Lil Durk’s trials began in 2024 when authorities arrested him on serious charges, including conspiracy and murder-for-hire, which he has pleaded not guilty to. His upcoming trial is set for May after a recent continuance granted by a California judge.
