Louw Keys In on Scrum Strength for Durban Showdown

Springbok prop Wilco Louw aims to bolster scrum strength against the Pumas.

Wilco Louw is determined to play a crucial role in securing scrum dominance for the Springboks in their upcoming Rugby Championship match against the Pumas in Durban this Saturday. Louw and his teammates are preparing for a challenging contest that could be pivotal in the title race, with only two points separating the Wallabies, All Blacks, Boks, and Pumas.

The experienced prop applauded the Pumas' scrum, noting their recent success in earning penalties against top teams like the All Blacks and Wallabies: “Their set piece is an area they are very focused on. They’ve improved significantly, so it will be a tight battle on Saturday.”

As one of the substitutes this weekend, Louw remains unfazed about whether he will start or come off the bench. Having made his Test debut in 2017 and worked hard to re-establish himself in the squad, he is ready for his 23rd cap.

“Every player has a role in the team, and I am here to help us move forward,” he stated. “It’s a privilege to play, regardless of whether I wear No 18 or No 3. My focus is on supporting the team in any way possible.”

Louw emphasized his primary responsibilities as a substitute: “Coming off the bench, my job is to scrum and maul. Achieving dominance in the set piece is my main duty while ensuring that our system is intact and ready.”

Reflecting on his journey to becoming a regular in the Springbok squad this season, Louw shared his experience after returning to the Vodacom Bulls from Harlequins: “I’ve enjoyed my rugby and am surrounded by exceptional players who share the goal of dominating scrums. It's an enjoyable season that motivates me further. It's an honor to be in the Springbok squad and test myself against the world's best.”

Kick-off for the match is at 17:10 and will be live on SuperSport.
