Ludacris might be all about the money, but not at the cost of his loyal fanbase. The rapper known for "Stand Up" quickly changed his plans to participate in the 2026 Rock The Country Tour after fans pointed out that it resembled a MAGA-fest.
The tour's lineup includes known Trump supporters Kid Rock and Jason Aldean, along with Nelly from Country Grammar. The announcement on January 13 surprised many, who were astonished to see Ludacris listed as a performer. Though the tour does not market itself politically, its inaugural run in 2024 took a political turn when Donald Trump endorsed Kid Rock via video at his set, according to Rolling Stone.
Ludacris was prominently featured in promotional social media posts for the event. However, on January 16, the festival revealed that he would not be performing and directed inquiries to his representatives. Rolling Stone reported that his team claimed it was all a "mix-up" and that he was never supposed to be part of it in the first place.
“Lines got crossed, and he wasn’t supposed to be on there,” his reps said.
It remains unclear how Ludacris's name was included in the lineup without anyone catching it earlier. Attendees at the tour's sundown town stops will have to wait to see Ludacris perform at another time. So far, he has not issued any public comments regarding the situation.
Meanwhile, Nelly is still scheduled to perform. The rapper from St. Louis has made it clear that he prioritizes opportunities and has shown no hesitation in performing for Trump. He previously appeared at the inauguration of the president in 2024, disregarding the backlash.
“I was born in a military base in Austin. My father served, my grandfather served, my uncle served, my auntie served. I’ve been entertaining the troops all over this world,” he stated back then. “If these people can give their life for the office, Nelly can perform for it…. I love this country as well. It is an honor for me to perform for the president of the United States, regardless of who is in office.”
Clearly, Nelly is open to all audiences when it comes to his music and financial gain. He is also set to perform at E11Even Miami this weekend, where comments from former fans on promotional posts have included harsh criticisms.
“Let the Maga crowd fill his seats,” said one user.
“Remember that you support Trump,” said another.
Fans have even resorted to humorous gifs in the comments, displaying everything from raccoons to boot lickers and trash cans. However, it seems Nelly is unfazed by the criticism. Ayyyyyee, must be the monaaayyy!
