Keletso Makgalwa Expresses Gratitude to Pitso Mosimane for Career Development
Keletso Makgalwa, the forward for Sekhukhune United and Bafana Bafana, has publicly acknowledged the significant influence former coach Pitso Mosimane had on his career at Mamelodi Sundowns. Makgalwa attributes his development as a professional footballer directly to the opportunities provided by Mosimane during his formative years.
Having advanced through the Sundowns development ranks, the 27-year-old was elevated to the Sundowns first team in 2018 under Mosimane's mentorship, making over 20 appearances for the team.
Despite challenges such as injuries that led to loan spells with various clubs, Makgalwa achieved success with Sundowns, securing two league titles, two Nedbank Cups, and one Carling Knockout (formerly the Telkom Knockout) before his exit in 2023.
“I’ve worked incredibly hard, and the journey wasn't straightforward,” said Makgalwa. “Earning a spot in a prestigious team like Mamelodi Sundowns was a tough challenge. Coach Pitso was instrumental in my journey, and I’m eternally grateful. I feel I’m moving closer to my aspirations, and I'm confident they will materialize soon.”
After departing Sundowns, Makgalwa sought to rejuvenate his career by joining Upington City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in 2023. He made a remarkable return to the Betway Premiership with Sekhukhune United last season, showcasing his skills with consistent performances and garnering a nomination for Footballer of the Season.
Now, Makgalwa stands at the brink of a new chapter, set to make his Bafana Bafana debut this weekend in an international friendly against Zambia. This match is an important chance for him to catch the eye of coach Hugo Broos in anticipation of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco next month.
