Manchester United has officially dismissed Ruben Amorim following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Leeds United on January 4.
The Red Devils have struggled in their last two matches, recording draws against Leeds and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who sit at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Sources indicate that tensions between Amorim and the club's higher management significantly contributed to the sudden decision to part ways.
Enzo Maresca Set to Be Approached by Manchester United
Amorim had previously faced potential dismissal during his year-long tenure but seemed to maintain backing from club officials. However, following the latest draw, dissatisfaction regarding his tactical approach reportedly grew among key executives.
Former Manchester United player Darren Fletcher, currently coaching the Under-18s, will temporarily oversee first-team duties, as both of his sons have recently featured in matchday squads under Amorim.
The ultimate trigger for the management’s decision appears to have been Amorim's comments in the post-match press conference. He stated, "Every department - the scouting department, the sporting director - needs to do their job. I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on." He further emphasized that he intended to fulfill his role until a successor arrived.
With Amorim's exit, Manchester United is now positioned to approach ex-Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who has also been considered a candidate for Manchester City as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola.
Maresca, who has previously collaborated with Guardiola at Manchester City as an assistant and head coach of the Elite Development Squad, appears to have the support of United's sporting director Jason Wilcox, also a former City employee.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is expected to announce Liam Rosenior as Maresca's replacement shortly.
