Mary J. Blige is celebrating a significant legal win against her former friend.

The lawsuit initiated by Misa Hylton, who has been Blige's friend and stylist for decades, has been dismissed by a New York court.

Documents acquired by TMZ Hip Hop indicate that Blige's legal team, consisting of Lisa Moore and Andrew Pequignot, successfully obtained a motion to dismiss Hylton’s suit, filed in July 2025, without prejudice. Although Hylton retains the right to pursue sanctions against Blige, her inactivity since filing suggests that the matter may be concluded.

The artist known for “Not Gon’ Cry” faced a $5 million lawsuit in New York from Hylton and her talent agency, M.I.S.A. Management. They alleged that Blige sabotaged their professional relationship with rapper Vado. In response, Blige countered that Hylton was running a fraudulent business.

As stated in All Hip Hop, Hylton and Vado accused Blige of withholding Vado’s completed album to pressure him into severing ties with Hylton. They claimed that Blige and her company, Beautiful Life Productions, interfered with a management agreement that entitled M.I.S.A. to 20% of Vado's earnings.

The court expressed dissatisfaction with Hylton's decision to file a lawsuit that contained inflammatory claims, remarking that she could face consequences for “bad faith litigation tactics” if she attempts to refile.

In light of the legal triumph, Mary celebrated on Instagram with a post that subtly reflected her joyful reaction to the case dismissal.

She shared an animated post set against a black screen, featuring a cool guy sunglasses emoji and sparkling effects, all while playing DJ Khaled’s “GOD DID.” While she didn’t provide explicit context regarding her celebration, it's clear she is relieved to have this lawsuit resolved.

Conversely, Misa Hylton issued a statement to The Breakfast Club’s Loren Lorosa explaining her reasons for choosing not to pursue the lawsuit further. Hylton reflected on her past choices regarding those who have “hurt me deeply,” eventually questioning her decision to take a different path against someone she once considered a sister.

She ultimately concluded that she “chose peace,” noting the situation had taken a “significant toll” on her mental health and led to deeper contemplation of her relationships.

I pray for healing for all of us.
