Master Your Craft: Getting the Axe in Animal Crossing

The Axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a crucial tool to prioritize when embarking on your island adventure.

Not only does it help in removing trees that may obstruct your designs, but it also allows you to gather various types of wood essential for DIY crafting.

Here's how to obtain an Axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, detailing the different Axe types and their uses.

How to get an Axe in New Horizons

In New Horizons, you can create four types of Axe: Flimsy Axe, Stone Axe, Axe, and Golden Axe.

Axes can be either crafted or bought at Nook's Cranny.

If you want to conserve Bells, crafting a Flimsy Axe is the best start, which can then be upgraded to a Stone Axe, and finally to a regular Axe. Note that the Flimsy Axe is only good for 30 uses, while the Stone Axe and regular Axe are far more durable.

The following shows what materials are required for each Axe type and their prices at Nook’s Cranny:

Flimsy Axe: 5 Tree Branch, 1 Stone - 800 Bells
Stone Axe: 1 Flimsy Axe, 3 Wood - N/A
Axe: 1 Stone Axe, 3 Wood, 1 Iron Nugget - 2,500 Bells
Golden Axe: 1 Axe, 1 Gold Nugget - N/A

The Golden Axe is special; players unlock its recipe after breaking Axes a total of 100 times.

How to use an Axe in New Horizons

To use an Axe, equip it from your pockets or quick-tool menu, then approach the tree you want to cut and press A to swing. This action can also be performed on rocks and boulders.

It's vital to understand that Flimsy Axes will not fell a tree completely; they will provide various types of wood without leaving a stump. To fully chop down a tree, use a Stone Axe or a regular Axe.
