Mastering the Art of Catching Bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Getting a Net in Animal Crossing: New Horizons should be one of your earliest priorities when exploring your island for the first time.

Your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is home to a variety of bugs, which you can catch to either donate to the Museum or sell for Bells. Before you can catch even the slowest of butterflies, however, you need to get a specific tool - a Net.

On that note, here's how to get a Net in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, plus how to use a Net and get all Net types.

How to get a Net in New Horizons

There are multiple Nets you can get and use in New Horizons, but only three of them can be crafted from materials around your island. They are the Flimsy Net, Net, and Golden Net. The other variations of a Net need to be bought from Nook's Cranny.

The Flimsy Net, like all flimsy tools, will last for 30 uses before it breaks and is part of the recipe for building the Net. The Net and its other variations will last much longer.

The Golden Net is one of a few special tools; you'll unlock the recipe for this by catching all bugs.

How to use a Net in New Horizons

To use a Net in New Horizons, you need to equip it from your pockets or from your quick-tool menu. When you're holding the Net you need to tap A to swing it and hopefully catch the bug you're targeting. There are a few more options to help you catch the trickier ones:

Walk slowly with your Net to approach bugs resting on stumps, trees, or flowers and tap A when you think you're within reach. While approaching very skittish bugs, press and hold A as you're approaching them to sneak up on them, releasing A when you think you're close enough to catch them.

Also, in the Winter season you can use your Net to catch Snowflakes too!

That's all for now! Enjoy your bug-catching adventures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!
