Eswatini football fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Mbabane Highlanders AM has officially addressed the swirling rumors surrounding Andile Mpisane’s playing career. Many speculated that the talented 24-year-old had hung up his boots, but the club has confirmed that he has not retired.
Andile Mpisane made his move to Mbabane Highlanders AM last August, following his mother, the prominent businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, becoming the club’s owner and president. Known affectionately as “MaMkhize,” she previously led Royal AM before it was expelled from the Premier Soccer League over tax issues.
Unfortunately, Mpisane's season was derailed by injury, leading to his exclusion from the squad and sparking rumors of retirement. In light of these speculations, the club firmly stated that the claims of his retirement are entirely inaccurate.
In a statement, Mbabane Highlanders AM clarified that Mpisane remains on the team but will be sidelined from training until at least April 2026 due to medical assessments related to his injury. This prognosis has led the club to make a strategic decision to deregister him for the remainder of the season to make room for a player who can contribute immediately as they pursue their goals.
Despite his temporary absence from the game, the club is optimistic about Mpisane’s future and will reevaluate his status ahead of the next season. They expressed gratitude towards their supporters and stakeholders for their patience and unwavering support during this time.
Stay tuned for more updates as the club continues to monitor Mpisane’s recovery.
