Manchester United is set to officially appoint former midfielder Michael Carrick as the club's interim head coach.
The Red Devils recently parted ways with Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed after standing firm on his preferred three-at-the-back style of play at Old Trafford.
Amorim's departure incurred a hefty £11 million exit fee, allowing Carrick to step in with a diverse coaching lineup to guide the team through the remainder of the season.
Michael Carrick set to take over as Manchester United interim head coach
Carrick, who moved on from his role at Middlesbrough in June 2025, is primed to take over from Amorim while INEOS deliberates on a permanent head coach until summer.
This season has been challenging for United, who faced early exit from the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town and were recently eliminated from the FA Cup by Brighton and Hove Albion.
The new coaching staff around Carrick includes Darren Fletcher, who, although currently the interim boss, is expected to return to his role with the Under-18s. Fletcher is at the beginning of his coaching journey, having enjoyed success with United's academy.
Additionally, Under-21 coach Travis Binnion will likely remain alongside Carrick, with veteran defender Jonny Evans joining them, having collaborated with Fletcher during matches versus Burnley and Brighton.
Jonathan Woodgate, who served as Carrick's assistant at Middlesbrough, is anticipated to resume that role until the season concludes, while former England coach Steve Holland is also expected to join the coaching setup.
Woodgate brings prior experience from Bournemouth and can communicate in Spanish, which will benefit players like Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro.
Carrick's official appointment will be announced later today.
