Miguel Insists Chiefs Are Still in Title Contention

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel emphasizes the importance of their upcoming match against AmaZulu.

Inacio Miguel, a defender for Kaizer Chiefs, has stated their upcoming clash against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Tuesday (19:30) is crucial for their ambitions in the Betway Premiership, as they look to ascend the league standings and close the gap on title contenders.

Following a disappointing narrow loss to their rivals Orlando Pirates, where a late penalty by Patrick Maswanganyi marked the fourth consecutive defeat for Chiefs in the Soweto derby, the team is desperate for a win. Chiefs now prepare to face an AmaZulu side buoyed by their recent 2-1 victory over SuperSport United.

Miguel expressed the team’s commitment to securing all three points, stating, “It’s a game that we want to come out with a victory. No matter if we lost the derby, in cup or league games, our focus is on achieving victory in the next match. We know the importance of staying close to the top.”

He further reflected on the intensity of the rivalry, saying that the Soweto derby represents the pinnacle of African football rivalries, despite his team’s defeat in what was his first experience of this high-stakes match.

Miguel, who joined Chiefs from Petro de Luanda, has described his time at the club as the most gratifying experience of his 11-year professional career. “Playing for Kaizer Chiefs has been incredibly rewarding, not just because of the passionate supporters but also due to the exceptional structure and atmosphere at the club,” he noted.
