Mngqithi Prepares for Tough Challenge Against Gallants

Golden Arrows Coach Mngqithi Anticipates Challenging Clash with Marumo Gallants

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed his concerns about facing the same opponent in quick succession as his team gears up to compete against Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final at King Zwelithini Stadium this Sunday.

This matchup will mark the second encounter within a week, following Arrows’ commanding 4-0 win over Gallants during the Betway Premiership last weekend at the same venue.

“It’s a very tough assignment; if there’s any game I don’t like in football, it’s back-to-back matches. I don’t like them because they always tend to give indifferent results. We are playing against a very good team. They may not have fared well in their last two matches in the province, but they remain a formidable opponent with many strengths,” Mngqithi stated.

Gallants are entering the match after suffering two defeats to teams from KZN, with the latest setback being a 1-0 loss to Durban City in the Betway Premiership at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday.

“In my opinion, they are probably ranked third or fourth among the best-coached teams in the league,” Mngqithi remarked, highlighting the challenges Gallants face during this transitional phase as they have appointed Frenchman Lafitte Alexandre after the departure of Abdeslam Ouaddou to Orlando Pirates.

Mngqithi also shed light on his approach to player management in light of their recent performances, which have coincided with their off-the-pitch success, such as the UpBackThrough Podcast, which recently celebrated its first anniversary and gained popularity on social media.

“I always teach my players to have focal points, to not try to tackle multiple tasks at once, as it can overwhelm them. I prefer to guide them step by step to maximize the potential of those who may have been overlooked,” he explained.

As Mngqithi’s team heads into the match as favorites, they aim to claim their first trophy since 2009. With a track record that includes leading the side to MTN8 victory 16 years ago, Mngqithi is determined to propel Abafana Bes’thende towards triumph.
