Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi shows respect after victory over Mamelodi Sundowns
Mngqithi engineered a 1-0 victory for Arrows against Sundowns in the Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday, ending Arrows’ three-game losing streak.
The decisive moment came in the first half when Junior Dion rose highest to connect with Ayabulela Maxwele’s corner kick, capitalizing on a lapse in the Sundowns defense.
In a display of respect, Mngqithi refrained from celebrating the goal, emphasizing his gratitude for the club that has significantly impacted his career and family over the past decade.
Mngqithi’s Humility and Perspective
Reflecting on Sundowns’ challenges, he noted their disrupted pre-season due to their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup.
“Beating Sundowns does not warrant gloating, as I hold immense respect for my former team,” Mngqithi stated.
He acknowledged Sundowns’ first defeat of the season, underlining their transition phase following the departure of their star player and his own replacement as coach.
Predicting Sundowns’ Return to Form
Despite the current struggles, Mngqithi is optimistic about Sundowns’ potential resurgence, recalling their history of dominance in the league.
“They may not be in sync, but the core strength of this team remains intact.”
He also expressed confidence in the club's recruitment efforts, noting several promising players that could enhance their prospects going forward.
“Class is permanent; moments of struggle do not define the true capabilities of this team,” Mngqithi concluded.
