Mngqithi Urges Support as Arrows Face Pirates in Crucial Clash

Golden Arrows Coach Manqoba Mngqithi Appeals for Fan Support Ahead of Pirates Match

The Golden Arrows are set to host the Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in a high-stakes Betway Premiership match on Tuesday at 19:30, aiming to end a troubling two-game losing streak that has placed them in 14th position on the league table.

Their recent setback was a 3-0 defeat against Stellenbosch FC, with all goals conceded from set pieces, prompting coach Mngqithi to address this weakness in training as they prepare for their upcoming showdown with the Pirates, who are in contention for points to narrow the gap on league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Pirates recently secured a 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs, but Sundowns extended their lead in the title race by winning their subsequent match.

Adding to the Arrows’ troubles, their recent loss to Stellenbosch marked their fourth consecutive league match without a victory since their last triumph against the Chiefs at the same venue in late March.

The Pirates, eager to build momentum ahead of the Nedbank Cup final against the Chiefs on Saturday, will also return to the Moses Mabhida Stadium for that match.

“I would like to encourage our supporters at Golden Arrows to come in numbers and watch this match,” Mngqithi stated. “They must trust the process. We may not have had good results lately, but if they look at the performances, the team is improving.

“I am very optimistic that we are going to take the team further, and it starts with the game against Pirates. They must just come and support us. I promise them that they will enjoy very good football.”

The Arrows face a challenging test, especially considering their last match against Pirates ended in a devastating 7-1 defeat last season.

This encounter was initially set for February 19 at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale, KwaZulu-Natal, but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch caused by heavy rainfall.

In the meantime, the Arrows have continued their recruitment efforts from the now-dissolved Royal AM, recently signing goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo and defender Ayanda Mabutho, both of whom previously played for Royal AM and Nathi Lions.

The expanding roster of players joining the Arrows on free transfers from Royal AM, following the revocation of their PSL membership by the South African Revenue Services (SARS), includes Siphesihle Msomi, Shadrack Kobedi, Philani Sithebe, Sabelo Sithole, Ayabulela Maxwele, and Thabo Matlaba.
