Benedict Vilakazi has high hopes for Monnapule Saleng, believing that with the right guidance, the winger can swiftly return to his peak performance at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Recently confirmed as Sundowns' second acquisition this transfer window, Saleng has overcome a challenging first half of the season spent on loan at Orbit College, following his struggles at Orlando Pirates.
Vilakazi, affectionately known as ‘Tso’, expressed pride in how Saleng seized this opportunity to revitalize his career. He believes that beyond just skill, Saleng requires substantial support and coaching, especially off the pitch, to bolster his confidence and align with team expectations.
“I still have faith in him. He just needs to regain his confidence and get the proper support,” Tso told iDiski TV.
Vilakazi stresses the importance of player management, highlighting that coaches often overlook this crucial aspect. He insists that understanding Saleng's personal journey and aligning him with the team’s mindset are key for consistent on-field results.
“He needs someone to guide him off the pitch before expecting consistent results on it. The club must understand him, and he must grasp the team’s expectations and the coach’s approach,” added Tso.
With this approach, Vilakazi firmly believes Saleng has the potential to net double-digit goals this season, with visions of possibly even surpassing the 15-goal mark.
