Nicki Minaj turned heads over the weekend with a fiery tirade against Don Lemon on X, formerly known as Twitter. The rap diva didn’t mince words as she unleashed a homophobic insult aimed at the former CNN anchor, demanding justice for what she deemed a gross violation during a protest he reported.
Minaj was incensed by Lemon's coverage of a recent anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis, where he livestreamed a disruption of a church service by demonstrators. They accused the church pastor of collaborating with ICE, igniting a wave of backlash against Lemon's actions.
Going all out, she wrote, "DON 'C*CK SUCKIN’ LEMON IS DISGUSTING. HOW DARE YOU? I WANT THAT THUG IN JAIL!!!!! HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO ANY OTHER RELIGION. LOCK HIM UP!!!!!"
The Backlash Against Don Lemon's Coverage
Minaj wasn't alone in her criticism. Harmeet Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, also weighed in on X, admonishing Lemon for using a place of worship as a protest site. "A house of worship is not a public forum for your protest!" she cautioned, asserting that such actions are protected under federal laws.
While Lemon has yet to directly respond to Minaj's outburst, he did tackle the backlash during a video address, clarifying that he had no prior knowledge of the church involvement. "I had no affiliations with that organization. We were there chronicling protests... That’s it," he stated, emphasizing his role as a journalist.
This protest followed the tragic shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by an ICE agent earlier this month, amplifying tensions surrounding the hot-button issue.
