Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche is eager to bolster his squad with a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window.
The team currently sits just above the Premier League relegation zone and has found scoring to be a significant challenge, managing only a few goals compared to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland.
Since taking over from Ange Postecoglou, Dyche has managed to stabilize the squad; however, his tactical approach during the festive fixtures has drawn criticism for being overly cautious.
Dyche Seeks Support from Owner Marinakis for Striker Acquisition
One of the main reasons for Dyche's conservative game strategies stems from the team's lack of consistent goal-scoring options. A comeback victory over West Ham United could prove crucial for Nottingham Forest, as providing players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi with a reliable striker may enhance their performance.
Reports indicate that Forest is looking at Olympiacos, a club also under the ownership of Evangelos Marinakis, to find a striker who fits Dyche's vision.
Among the candidates, Mehdi Taremi has emerged as a top option for Nottingham Forest. The 33-year-old striker, who has made a significant impact with his current club Olympiacos, is seen as the most viable signing. However, his move may also depend on whether imbalances arise within his current squad.
Taremi, who previously helped Inter reach the Champions League final, has been in impressive form, scoring eight goals in 11 league games since his transfer to Greece.
Other candidates for Forest’s attacking options include Jorgen Strand Larsen of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Artem Dovbyk of Roma, and Youssef El-Nesyri of Fenerbahce, all of whom align with Dyche’s desired striker profile.
Currently, Forest averages just one goal a game in the league, a statistic that is alarming, as they trail behind every other team except Wolves. Additionally, Nottingham’s performance has not matched expectations regarding their Expected Goals (xG) numbers, indicating a pressing need for a proven goal-scorer.
Fans will be closely watching how Dyche plans for the upcoming clash against Arsenal, especially after a recent attempt to counter Aston Villa's attacking efforts fell flat.
This development occurs amidst news that transfer chief Edu Gaspar may be on his way out, following dissatisfaction from Marinakis regarding recent market activities.
