Orlando Pirates Considers Loaning Young Midfielder Simphiwe Selepe
The Orlando Pirates are exploring a loan opportunity for their young midfielder, Simphiwe Selepe, as he seeks to gain essential game experience away from the club. The loan could take shape during the upcoming January transfer window.
At just 20 years old, Selepe has faced challenges securing a spot in the starting lineup under Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. The club believes a loan could provide him with the playing time necessary for his development.
Since joining the Buccaneers for the 2023/24 season, Selepe transitioned from the DStv Diski Challenge team to the first team towards the end of the previous season under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro. He featured in seven matches and scored one goal, earning a call-up to the national team from Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos in June, marking his second time representing South Africa after previously playing for the U20 side.
Unfortunately, Selepe's situation has changed this season, and he has yet to make any appearances under Ouaddou's management. With the young midfielder not regularly included in match-day squads, the club is now considering options to loan him out.
A source close to the Pirates revealed, “Pirates is considering loaning Simphiwe Selepe in January. Coach Ouaddou believes he is a great asset for the club but wants to loan him out to ensure he gains valuable game experience.”
The potential loan could involve either Chippa United or Orbit College, according to reports. This move would ultimately benefit Selepe, paving the way for him to enhance his experience at Chippa United.
Notably, the Buccaneers have already established a relationship with Chippa, with Goodman Mosele currently on loan there, while Azola Tshobeni made a permanent transfer. Similarly, players like Monnapule Saleng, Yanga Madiba, and Thuso Moleleki are currently out on loan at Orbit College.
