Orlando Pirates coach Abdelsam Ouaddou emphasizes team effort over individual accolades.
Ouaddou was recognized as the PSL Coach of the Month for September/October on Wednesday after steering the Buccaneers to three consecutive league wins without conceding a goal.
The Moroccan coach, who assumed command of Pirates during the offseason, shared his thoughts following a 3-1 victory over Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday.
This win propelled Pirates to second place in the Betway Premiership standings with 22 points from 10 matches, just three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
With two games in hand, Pirates have the potential to ascend to the top of the table should they secure victories in those matches.
“As I mentioned, I don’t value individual awards,” stated Ouaddou.
“Receiving the Coach of the Month award is a reflection of the players’ relentless effort — they are truly deserving of this recognition. I must also extend my gratitude to my staff, the South African technical team, and the management for their unwavering support.
“Rather than emphasizing 'Ouaddou is the Coach of the Month,' I prefer to proclaim that Orlando Pirates are the Club of the Month. This accolade is for everyone involved.”
The Buccaneers have remained in Durban as they gear up for a Carling Knockout semi-final against Richards Bay, set to take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Ouaddou is scheduled to address the media ahead of this pivotal encounter on Thursday at the same location.
