Orlando Pirates coach, Abdel Ouaddou, aims for league and CAF Champions League triumphs.
Ouaddou, who joined the Pirates during the off-season, recently celebrated his first trophy after securing a 3-0 victory against Stellenbosch in the MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium.
A Historic Win for Pirates 🏆
This victory marked a record-extending achievement for Orlando Pirates, as they claimed the MTN8 for the fourth consecutive time, following three titles won under former coach Jose Riveiro, who left the club in May.
Setting Lofty Goals
During a recent interview on SuperSport TV’s Extra Time, Ouaddou expressed, “A successful season would be winning the league and the Champions League.”
The Pirates, who last secured the league title in the 2011/12 season, currently stand fifth in the Betway Premiership table with nine points from five matches.
Last season, the team reached the Champions League semifinals but fell to eventual champions, Pyramids.
The Road Ahead
Orlando Pirates will commence their Champions League campaign this weekend against Lesotho’s Lioli in the preliminary round, set for Saturday at 15:00 at Free State Toyota Stadium.
Lioli has been unable to host the match in Lesotho due to the absence of a stadium that meets CAF standards, a situation that also affects Lesotho’s national team in their CAF and FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, which are played in South Africa.
