Orlando Pirates coach Abdelsam Ouaddou reflects on tactical victory against Stellenbosch FC.
The Buccaneers secured a hard-fought 3-0 victory after extra time at Mbombela Stadium, marking their fourth consecutive MTN8 title.
Substitutes Tshepang Moremi, who scored two goals, along with Tshegofatso Mabasa, played crucial roles in this historic achievement, making Pirates the first team to win the trophy four times in a row.
This win also represents the club's 14th top-eight trophy, bringing them closer to Kaizer Chiefs’ record of 15 titles.
“It was a very tactical game. The match was closely contested; I emphasized to the players that the outcome would hinge on small details and tactical acumen,” Ouaddou remarked in a post-match interview with SuperSport TV.
“I want to commend my players for their bravery and belief until the final whistle. It’s crucial to maintain a solid defense and unity within the team block, as we have the ability to capitalize on the game at any moment,” he added.
Following his appointment earlier this season, Ouaddou praised the key contributions of his substitutes.
“We were confident that the changes from the bench would influence the match. I’m extremely happy for the club, our supporters, and the players. I am grateful to my staff, particularly the South African team, for helping us achieve this title.”
Moreover, Ouaddou dedicated the victory to his staff members involved in a car accident during travel to play against Chippa United prior to the FIFA international break.
“I want to dedicate this trophy to our goalkeeper coach, Tyron Damons, who is currently unable to be with us,” Ouaddou stated.
“I also dedicate it to my player, Tapelo [Xoki]. We were in an accident recently and, by God's grace, we are here today. This title is a celebration of life and resilience,” he concluded.
