Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has stressed the importance of the Carling Cup match.
The Buccaneers will face the Carling All Stars at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, aiming for the prestigious Carling Cup trophy. Despite missing nine players who are currently with the Bafana Bafana squad preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Ouaddou is determined to secure a victory.
Pirates aspire to make history by being the first Carling Knockout champions to win the Carling Cup, after previous attempts by Stellenbosch and Magesi fell short in the last two seasons.
Having recently triumphed over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout final, Ouaddou's side seeks to follow up with another major win, last achieving a cup victory in 2011 when the tournament was still named the Telkom Knockout.
Although key players such as Sipho Chaine, Nkosinathi Sibisi, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi are missing, the coach believes his team is well-prepared. "It’s a very important game for us, and we approach every match with the intent to win," Ouaddou commented.
He elaborated on the team's preparation: "We have spent the week analyzing our opponent and studying their coach's philosophy to better understand how they might approach the game."
Ouaddou emphasized that this match provides a chance for less prominent players to showcase their abilities, stating, "All the players you will see are the impact players. We are ready to face any challenge this game presents."
With a trophy on the line, the match promises to be competitive. The coach noted, "The second half of the season will be tough as we are at the top of the log, and we expect each player to rise to the occasion. It’s time for everyone to prove they’re ready."
This encounter will be the final match for the Buccaneers before the AFCON and Christmas break, marking a significant moment in their season as they have already secured the MTN8 title and are currently leading the log in the Betway Premiership.
