Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns Collect Wins in DStv Diski Challenge
The day's action began with Pirates edging out Chippa United 1-0 in a tightly contested match. The Buccaneers struggled to break down the Chilli Boys’ defense, but Thuso Sesipi’s strike after the 70th minute proved to be the difference-maker, securing a hard-fought victory for Pirates.
In the second match of the day, two-time winners Sundowns thrashed Durban City 5-2, with Bennet Mokoena scoring four goals to lead the Brazilians to victory. Oarabile Booysen added the fifth goal, while Lindokuhle Chonco scored both goals for City and was awarded the man of the match for his impressive performance.
Chonco’s two goals took his tally to five in the league, having scored a hat-trick in City’s opening match against Pirates. Sundowns’ win propelled them to the top of the log.
Elsewhere, Golden Arrows continued their struggles, suffering a 3-0 loss to Sekhukhune United at Isak Steyl Stadium. Tsholofelo Bokaba scored a brace in the first half, including the fastest goal of the match in the opening minute, while Musa Dhlamini added the third goal for Babina Noko.
The PSL Reserve League will continue on Sunday with five more matches, featuring some exciting fixtures. The festival will continue with two matches to be held at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, with Magesi taking on Siwelele and TS Galaxy hosting defending champions Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday morning. Other matches include Stellenbosch vs. Richards Bay at Idas Valley Stadium, Orbit College vs. Marumo Gallants at Olympia Park Stadium, and AmaZulu vs. Polokwane City at Princes Magogo Stadium.
