Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup Final Abandoned After Unplayable Conditions
The Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup final between AmaZulu and Nsingizini Hotspurs was abandoned and ultimately shared after the pitch at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium became waterlogged on Sunday.
Heavy rain in Durban and across northern KwaZulu-Natal, which had been pouring down since Saturday night, left the playing surface unplayable and forced the organisers to call off the match.
AmaZulu secured their spot in the final by defeating defending champions Njampela 2–1 in the opening semi-final at the Ulundi venue. Tebogo Mashego equalised after Sbongiseni Mdluli's opener, with Elmo Kambindu, the Namibian striker, netting the decisive goal.
Nsingizini Hotspurs reached the final after overcoming Richards Bay 6–5 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup has become a significant event in KwaZulu-Natal’s sporting calendar, attracting increasing interest from both locals and visitors.
This tournament is held in memory of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a respected statesman, visionary leader, and founder of the IFP, who passed away in 2023.
