Real Madrid is reportedly considering two ex-Chelsea managers as they search for a replacement for Xabi Alonso.
Alonso, 44, departed from the Bernabeu less than eight months after taking charge, leaving Los Blancos just four points behind Barcelona in La Liga.
The team also faced a narrow defeat, 3-2, in the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona over the weekend in Saudi Arabia, amidst rumors of a growing divide between Alonso and the players.
Real Madrid Shortlists Two Former Chelsea Managers as Alonso Successor
Alonso's departure comes after a challenging period in charge where it appeared he struggled to maintain control over the squad.
Reports indicated he had a tense confrontation with Kylian Mbappe regarding tactics before the recent cup final, marking a pivotal moment in his tenure.
His sacking led to the elevation of former defender Alvaro Arbeloa as interim head coach.
Among the notable figures connected with the managerial role are two who have previously managed Chelsea. According to reports, Jurgen Klopp is the frontrunner, with Madrid willing to extend a lucrative contract to him. The celebrated coach has been jobless since his departure from Liverpool in 2024, where he won eight major titles.
Other names in contention include Enzo Maresca, recently released by Chelsea, and Antonio Conte, who continues to excel with Napoli. Maresca is also being pursued by Manchester City, while Conte has significantly improved players' performances, notably former Manchester United player Scott McTominay.
