Cobus Reinach: Work Continues as Springboks Prepare for November Tour
The Springboks departed London after their thrilling 29-27 victory over Argentina, which secured them back-to-back Rugby Championship titles. As they celebrate their recent triumph, focus now shifts to a challenging five-match tour scheduled for November.
During this tour, the Springboks are set to take on Japan, France, Italy, Ireland, and Wales in what promises to be a demanding end-of-year campaign across Europe and the UK.
A group of players returned to South Africa on Monday, still absorbing the significance of their consecutive Rugby Championship victories. Despite the celebrations, Cobus Reinach's attention is already on the upcoming challenges.
“You could see in the tournament how we’d lose one, win one, lose again, and then win a match,” said Reinach, who scored two tries against the Pumas.
“Rugby is a strange game. But we know we have a lot of work to do before the year-end tour, and we are all ready and excited to do it. It’s going to be tough, but we’re ready to put in the work.”
Although facing defeats in matches against Australia and New Zealand, the Springboks retained their title, marking the first time in history that South Africa has won consecutive Rugby Championship titles. This year's tournament was particularly competitive, with all four nations vying for the trophy right up until the final weekend.
Reflecting on their historic Rugby Championship win, Reinach, who was named Player of the Match, commented on the difficulty of this year's competition. “It’s a really tough competition, and Argentina showed it. Anything could have happened, and any of the teams could have almost won, so it’s a great feeling.”
“I’m someone who doesn’t really look back at achievements before I’m done, and I’m not done,” he added.
Reinach acknowledged the competitiveness of the final match, understanding that Argentina would be eager to conclude their campaign with a victory. “They have a lot of fight in them. They are a team that doesn’t stop giving up, and they showed that,” he said.
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus is expected to announce the squad for the November tour within the next two weeks, with plans for the team to reconvene later in October.
