Manchester United's interim head coach Michael Carrick has chosen a familiar lineup for his coaching staff, bringing in Jonathan Woodgate as his assistant, alongside former United defender Jonny Evans and ex-England assistant manager Steve Holland.
Roy Keane expressed strong criticism of these appointments, questioning the club's trend of hiring former players and their association with the legendary manager who shaped them into champions.
Keane Critiques United's Coaching Appointments in Podcast Duel with Neville
In a recent podcast, Keane took aim at Evans, referring to his brief departure from the club just weeks prior. "Jonny Evans leaves Man United four or five weeks ago as a loans manager," Keane stated, highlighting the swift turnaround in coaching roles under Carrick.
Keane sarcastically remarked, "What has Jonny Evans done to be a coach of Man United's first team?" pointing out the lack of experience.
The lasting influence of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson is evident, as many of his former players continue to fill key managerial roles within the club. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also considered for the position previously held by Ruben Amorim, while names like Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy have had interim stints as well.
“Fletch knows the club, works with the academy, he knows the girl in the canteen,” Keane continued, referencing Darren Fletcher's brief time as caretaker. "How did the two games go?"
Holland, noted for his previous role with the England national team, stands out as the only member of the staff lacking Ferguson's direct tutelage. Despite a rocky tenure in Japan, Neville commended Holland's training abilities, insisting, "If Steve Holland is on the training pitch, at least you know they're going to get top class training sessions."
Carrick is set to lead Manchester United in an upcoming derby against city rivals Manchester City on Saturday.
