AmaZulu striker Ryan Moon insists he feels no pressure to deliver for Usuthu, despite yet to fully make his mark at the club after an injury-disrupted start to his spell in Durban.
Moon’s situation comes amid Carling Black Label’s recent awareness sessions in Durban, which focused on major societal challenges such as mental health issues and gender-based violence.
While these discussions highlighted pressures faced in everyday life, the forward maintains a calm outlook on his own football journey, even as injuries have slowed his progress at AmaZulu.
The 29-year-old joined Usuthu during the off-season after crossing over from Golden Arrows, with the two Durban clubs interestingly sharing offices at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Moon, the younger brother of former PSL midfielder Bryce Moon—who previously played for Maritzburg United, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC—missed 11 consecutive matches in all competitions due to an unspecified injury.
After being sidelined since August, he made his return as AmaZulu edged Golden Arrows 1–0 on 2 December, in the final match before the league break for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The setback was far from ideal for Moon, who joined a new club hoping to make an immediate impact. With the second half of the Betway Premiership season set to resume in January, competition for places is expected to intensify, particularly among Usuthu’s attacking options.
However, AmaZulu have coped well in his absence and currently sit fifth on the Betway Premiership table with 24 points from 14 matches.
Moon, though, views pressure in a positive light.
“For me, it hasn’t been the easiest start after getting injured,” Moon said.
“Fortunately, I’ve had good conversations with coach Arthur Zwane, who knows me well. The most important thing is that the team is doing well.
“For me, it’s always about the team first. I don’t feel pressure—pressure is a privilege, and I enjoy it.
“As soon as I’m able to help the team again, that’s what matters most.”
Since making his PSL debut for Maritzburg United against Platinum Stars on 13 February 2016 at the age of 19, Moon has gone on to score 29 goals in 171 appearances, while also providing nine assists across his professional career.
