Seema Explains Kaizer Chiefs Duo's Lack of Match Fitness

Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema addresses match fitness issues for Kaizer Chiefs duo

Lehlohonolo Seema, the head coach of Siwelele, has explained that the current absence of Kaizer Chiefs players Happy Mashiane and Samkelo Zwane from the starting lineup is primarily due to their lack of match fitness. Both players joined Siwelele on loan prior to the closure of the transfer window.

Zwane has not participated in the last two games for Siwelele, including the recent 2-0 loss against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The 23-year-old midfielder has seen limited action, with only four appearances across all competitions, making his performance during this loan crucial as his contract with Chiefs expires at season's end.

In contrast, Mashiane has notably missed the last five matches played by Siwelele, his last game being against Marumo Gallants in September.

Seema noted that both players are still in the process of adjusting to their new surroundings after coming from a non-active role at Chiefs. “Where they came from, they were not playing,” Seema stated, emphasizing the challenges of integrating players who lack match time.

“Anytime soon you could see them playing, but it has been difficult for them to walk straight into the team because they were not playing at Chiefs. It takes time to adapt and build relationships on the field,” Seema continued. “They are our players, and you will see them play because they are putting in the effort.”

Zakhele Lepasa finds himself in a similar situation, having also missed the last five matches due to injury after joining the club post-release at the end of the previous season.

Currently, Siwelele sits in 12th place on the Betway Premiership table, with 14 points accumulated from 13 matches. Their upcoming fixture is set against Chippa United at Dr Molemela Stadium on 29 November.
