Springbok Coach Rassie Erasmus Celebrates Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s Brilliant Display
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has lauded the exceptional performance of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who earned the record-breaking man of the match title in a commanding 67-30 victory over Argentina in Durban. Feinberg-Mngomezulu notched a remarkable hat-trick of tries, scoring 37 points—the highest by a Springbok in a Test match—propelling Erasmus’s team to the top of the Rugby Championship standings with one match remaining.
Erasmus commended his “brilliant” flyhalf and acknowledged the support from his teammates, emphasizing the ongoing effort to build a versatile playing squad. “What we’re striving for is not only effective combinations but ensuring all our combinations work together seamlessly,” said Erasmus, reflecting on his team's nine tries compared to Argentina's three, resulting in a total of 15 tries over the last two matches.
Despite this success, Erasmus had to navigate injury challenges to players like Cheslin Kolbe, Damian Willemse, and Ethan Hooker in the second half, ultimately leading to a completely reshuffled backline. “Integrating players is a process, and while progress is evident, we recognize the potential for rapid change, so we remain cautious,” Erasmus stated.
“Creating a team understanding is vital, ensuring that changes do not disrupt our performance. However, we have yet to secure our achievements in this Rugby Championship; we’ve only recorded one win and one loss against New Zealand and Australia, and we respect Argentina's resilience,” he added.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s impressive display did not go unnoticed. “His performance was undeniably brilliant,” remarked Erasmus, acknowledging the nurturing environment provided by senior players. “You cannot expect immediate world-class talent—growth takes time. Sacha has evolved throughout this campaign, and with guidance from teammates like Damian de Allende, Damian Willemse, and Manie Libbok, he has excelled.”
Bok captain Siya Kolisi echoed Erasmus’s sentiments, praising Feinberg-Mngomezulu not only for his scoring but for his game management. “Sacha was phenomenal today—not just in scoring, but in orchestrating our play. The synergy among players allowed everyone to shine,” Kolisi said.
Kolisi highlighted the emerging maturity within the team, noting, “Many players took responsibility in the game today. We embrace shared leadership; it’s about collective input rather than relying solely on one individual. Experienced players are willing to listen to those newer to the team.”
The Rugby Championship concludes with a pivotal match against the Pumas at Twickenham on Saturday, kick-off at 15h00 SA time. The match will be broadcast live and exclusively on SuperSport.
