Springboks See Saturday's Clash as a Critical Test

Springbok centre Damian de Allende and prop Thomas du Toit shared insights ahead of Saturday's match against Argentina.

The Springboks have moved past their impressive 67-30 victory over Argentina, now fully focused on the significant challenge ahead as they face the Pumas at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, for the concluding match of the Rugby Championship.

Both players forecast an intense showdown, emphasizing the importance of the occasion despite it being on neutral ground. They anticipate robust crowd involvement, with both teams having strong support at the venue.

“We’ve played here a few times, and although it’s neutral ground for both teams, we expect Argentina to have a good support base as well, so it’s going to be a proper Test match,” commented De Allende.

Du Toit, who plays for Bath in the UK, conveyed a unique perspective, feeling somewhat at home due to local support; however, he acknowledged Argentina's backing as well.

While the Boks hold a slight advantage in the standings over New Zealand, both players reiterated the need for caution against Argentina, given their track record this season.

“We approach each match as a new block, so this week we trained as we would for any other Test week,” stressed Du Toit.

De Allende echoed this sentiment, pointing out Argentina's capability for an upset: “They may not be able to win the competition anymore, but they already defeated New Zealand, Australia, and the British & Irish Lions this year.”

Du Toit highlighted the squad's depth and the strategic use of the bench by coach Rassie Erasmus, emphasizing the team spirit and readiness for the upcoming challenge.

“It’s also great knowing that one can go on the field and empty your tank with the knowledge that someone equally efficient will come onto the field,” Du Toit noted.

With their focus fixed firmly on this weekend’s battle, the players acknowledged the upcoming Rugby World Cup but maintained that their immediate priority is retaining their championship title.

“This week is the most important game of the year for us so far. It is essentially a Final for us,” remarked de Allende.

The highly anticipated match will kick off at 13h00 and will be broadcast live via SuperSport.
