Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed the impending arrival of Portuguese attacker Miguel Reisinho.
According to Cardoso, the official announcement will be made in the coming days once all the final details are sorted out.
Cardoso admitted that signing Reisinho was a challenging task due to the geographical distance between South Africa and Europe. “I think in the next one or two days, we will have a better understanding,” said Cardoso, who shares his Portuguese roots. “It was clear that if we wanted to strengthen the team, we needed to do it up front. It was a tough journey until the last moment because it’s not easy to find players of this quality.”
The coach underscored that it is uncommon for a player of Reisinho’s caliber to transition from Europe to Africa. Reisinho is a free agent following his departure from Portuguese side Boavista at the end of last season.
Reisinho will join another recent Portuguese signing, Nuno Santos, who made his Sundowns debut in a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows.
Santos, a reported R20 million signing from Vitória SC, was part of the Portugal squads that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2016 and the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2018.
