Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has provided an update on when his defender Khuliso Mudau will return to action for the Brazilians.
Mudau has been absent from Sundowns’ squad since the start of the season, with rumors circulating that he wants to leave the club.
Although he started training with the team two weeks ago, he has yet to feature in Sundowns’ squad this season.
“Khuliso is still resolving his issues with the club, but he’s been training very well,” Cardoso said after Sundowns’ 3-0 victory against Magesi at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
“I’m pretty sure that soon he will be available to help the club, and he is willing to help us. I think the people from the club will solve this with the right responsibilities, intentions, and commitment for him to be back.”
Cardoso emphasized that the club is working together with Mudau to resolve his issues and ensure his return to the team.
“We are absolutely working together on everything, and Khuliso is training very well, as I said, and will be available soon until all issues are already planned.”
The Portuguese mentor also highlighted the need to manage Mudau’s return carefully, given that he has been training alone for a long time.
“As much as we need him back, we can’t rush him because you need to understand that he was training alone for a long time,” he said.
“We must respect that he is an international player, and we must not expose him by fielding him in high-intensity games while he didn’t train a lot because people will start to badmouth him if he doesn’t perform well.”
Cardoso added that there are steps that need to be worked on for Mudau to return to the team in top form.
“There are some steps we need to work on for him to be back, so that when he arrives, he will be at his best,” he added.
“As a coach, it’s very important for me to manage all my players very well and also to protect them, but I promise he will be available soon.”
Sundowns currently top the Betway Premiership log table with 14 points in six games, and Mudau’s return will be crucial in strengthening their defense.
