Sundowns Defeat Galaxy to Stay Top of Betway Premiership

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday evening, maintaining their position at the top of the Betway Premiership table.

The Brazilians dominated the early stages of the match, creating numerous scoring opportunities within the first 20 minutes.

However, they were unable to capitalize on their chances, with Marcello Allende’s shot from outside the box being saved by Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape in the 30th minute.

The tempo of the game picked up slightly after the 30-minute mark, with Galaxy thought to have scored on the stroke of halftime, only for the referee to rule out the goal due to offside. The first half ultimately ended goalless.

The Brazilians came out strong in the second half, and their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when Arthur Sales scored the decisive goal with a well-placed left-footed shot from the center of the box.

Sundowns continued to press for a second goal, with Teboho Mokoena coming close in the 71st minute, but his powerful shot from outside the box flew wide of the target.

Despite their dominance, Sundowns were unable to extend their lead, and the match ended 1-0 in their favor.

The victory sees the Brazilians remain atop the Betway Premiership table with 25 points from 12 games.

With the FIFA international break imminent, Sundowns will now focus on their upcoming CAF Champions League group stage match against Lupopo on 23 November.
