Sundowns Seal Deal for Portuguese Midfielder Miguel Reisinho

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Miguel Reisinho, just days after coach Miguel Cardoso hinted the deal was close to completion.

Speaking after Sundowns’ 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday, Cardoso revealed that Reisinho’s arrival would be finalized within “a day or two.” The club confirmed his signing on Friday, unveiling him as their latest addition.

Reisinho becomes the second Portuguese player to join Sundowns this week, following the high-profile signing of Nuno Santos from Vitória SC.

The 26-year-old Santos, who cost the club a reported R20 million, made his debut against Arrows on Wednesday and has already inherited the number 10 jersey previously worn by Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

Unlike Santos, who joined on deadline day in the PSL transfer window, Reisinho arrives as a free agent after parting ways with Portuguese side Boavista at the end of last season.

Now, all eyes will be on whether Reisinho will be available for selection when Sundowns face Richards Bay at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

The club is awaiting the completion of his work permit, though Santos’ case earlier this week showed that Home Affairs can fast-track the process—his paperwork was completed within two days.

With the double Portuguese signings of Reisinho and Santos, Sundowns have strengthened their squad depth as they look to defend their Betway Premiership title and challenge for continental honours in the CAF Champions League.
