Thapelo Maseko is on the brink of an exciting new chapter in his football career as he prepares to leave Mamelodi Sundowns for a loan to European club AEL Limassol this January.
In a twist of fate, the talented winger has reportedly exited Sundowns’ training camp in Polokwane, paving the way for a fresh start in Cyprus, where he will reunite with fellow South African international Luther Singh.
While the Brazilians have made a splash in the transfer market by signing Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates, Maseko’s own future took a turn as he sought more competitive minutes on the pitch. Having struggled to secure a spot in the first team, with only 100 minutes of senior play under his belt, this move presents a golden opportunity for the 22-year-old to revitalize his career.
Previously, Aris Limassol had expressed interest in the young star at the start of the season, but initial negotiations didn’t bring the desired results. However, with the current loan deal almost finalized, Maseko's prospects are looking brighter. This loan is crucial not only for his development but also to potentially earn his way back into the Bafana Bafana squad, especially after missing out on the 2025 AFCON.
The Cypriot league is growing in South African presence, with Mihlali Mayambela already making waves for Aris Limassol and Singh currently making an impact at AEL Limassol. Maseko’s move is set to add to this exciting narrative.
