Polish developer Rebel Wolves has premiered the main musical theme for its highly anticipated dark fantasy RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, surprising many with its resemblance to The Witcher 3.
The theme was showcased in a recent New Year update video, accompanied by a special chamber orchestra performance. It features haunting folk-inspired vocals that build tension with intense drum beats, leading to frantic violin melodies. The parallels to the main theme from a certain well-known RPG are instantly recognizable.
The composition for The Blood of Dawnwalker is crafted by Nikola Kołodziejczyk, featuring contributions from Polish folk singer Karolina Matuszkiewicz and folk violinist Kacper Malisz. While the creators differ, the musical essence connects the two games.
An important note is that The Witcher 3 also embraced strong elements of Polish folk music, co-composed by CD Projekt Red's Marcin Przybyłowicz and the folk-metal group Percival, whose sounds gave the game its iconic identity.
As of now, Percival's involvement with The Witcher 4 remains unconfirmed, though there have been hints of their music appearing in related concerts.
Interestingly, The Blood of Dawnwalker mirrors many aspects of The Witcher 3, both boasting dark fantasy narratives surrounding supernaturally endowed protagonists, akin gameplay styles, and adult themes. This is particularly noticeable given the involvement of former CD Projekt Red talents at Rebel Wolves.
Directed by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who helmed The Witcher 3, The Blood of Dawnwalker promises notable deviations, primarily through its protagonist Coen, who embodies a half-human, half-vampire character with unique abilities like wall-climbing and night-time teleportation.
Moreover, the game is designed as a less linear experience compared to its predecessor, focusing on exploration within a 30-day timeline to accomplish the main quest of rescuing Coen's family, leaving every player's journey open to interpretation.
Rebel Wolves is set to launch The Blood of Dawnwalker on PC and consoles within this year.
