EA has announced the release of The Sims 4's first major expansion for 2026, titled the Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack. This exciting new pack is set to introduce familial dynasties, scandal, and intrigue, launching across all platforms on February 12.
Despite the anticipation, the atmosphere around The Sims has been tense lately. The recent acquisition of EA by a consortium of investors—including Saudi Arabia's investment fund and Donald Trump's son-in-law—has sparked criticism from prominent content creators. Concerns have been raised about the conservative and anti-LGBTQIA+ values of the new owners, which conflict with the inclusive ethos that has long characterized The Sims community. In response, the development team has assured fans that their commitment to inclusivity remains intact.
The Royalty & Legacy expansion aims to captivate players with its mix of familial dynasties, historical elements, and whimsical storytelling. It introduces the new coastal world of Ondarion, divided into three unique neighborhoods: the art-centric Dambele, the adventurous Verdemar, and the luxurious Bellacorde, each ruled by their own dynasties vying for the overall throne.
A key feature of this expansion is the new Noble Career, allowing Sims to ascend from Noble Newcomer to Kingdom Leader through strategic alliances, royal duties, and choices that influence their favor in court. However, climbing the ranks invites competition, making the new Swordsmanship skill an essential asset as players navigate their rise to power.
Additionally, the expansion will include ballroom dancing, sword-fighting tournaments, secret teleportation passages, and a new Familial Dynasty System. This feature enables players to designate heirs, oust unwanted Sims, and uphold their dynasty's Prestige through a new Scandal System that affects relationships and careers as rumors unfold.
Further enhancements comprise new building items, Create-a-Sim additions, and the introduction of a Backroom Lot, which transforms from a benign daytime space to a lively venue at night.
The Sims 4: Royalty & Legacy will retail for $39.99 (approximately £34.99) upon its February launch. EA is offering a promotional deal where players making purchases between January 15 and March 15 will receive a complimentary upgrade to the Grand Bundle, including the expansion and exclusive digital content.
