Kaizer Chiefs are on a mission to revamp their squad, aiming to reclaim their former glory in South African football after facing some tough times.

Aiming for the Title

After a challenging start, the Soweto giants celebrated a crucial victory—breaking a decade-long title drought by defeating Orlando Pirates in the final of the 2024-25 Nedbank Cup. This win has boosted their morale as they set their sights on clinching the Betway Premiership title this season, currently trailing Orlando Pirates by just four points in the league standings.

January Transfer Window Hopes

With the January transfer window now open, all eyes are on potential signings that could fortify Kaizer Chiefs' squad for a stronger title challenge. Football analyst Uche Anuma has spotlighted five standout players from Mamelodi Sundowns who could make a significant impact.

“I believe Kaizer Chiefs still have a chance to win the Betway Premiership this season, and that is if they take the January transfer window seriously by bringing in a set of talented players from Mamelodi Sundowns,”

Anuma stated, highlighting the importance of strategic acquisitions.

Key Player Focus: Peter Shalulile

One of the most exciting prospects is Peter Shalulile. With Mamelodi Sundowns recently signing a new striker, Anuma believes this could open the door for Chiefs to grab the prolific forward, stating,

“Sundowns just signed a new striker, which means Peter Shalulile might no longer be in Cardoso's plan, which gives room for Amakhosi to poach him.”

Shalulile, who has been a top contributor with three PSL Golden Boot titles, still has a lot to offer at age 32.

Other Talents to Consider

Besides Shalulile, Anuma pointed out other valuable players that Kaizer Chiefs might want to consider. Thapelo Maseko, who has struggled for game time at Sundowns, could be the fresh talent needed on the left flank where previous performances have not met expectations.

“Mothobi Mvala, Sphelele Mkhulise, and Fawaaz Basadien are the other three players Kaizer Chiefs can consider signing from Mamelodi Sundowns in this January transfer window,”

he added.

The potential of these players joining could be the key to unlocking a stronger season for Kaizer Chiefs as they pursue the championship.
