Troy Baker, a prominent figure in the video game industry, believes that generative AI could positively impact the performing arts. He argues that this technology will encourage audiences to seek out more 'authentic' experiences, such as live shows and theater, distancing themselves from 'content distilled through a black mirror.'
In an interview, Baker stated, "AI can create content but it cannot create art. The fundamental element required for art is the human experience. While people may focus on what AI can do, we shouldn't diminish its relevance; we simply need to acknowledge its presence."
He emphasized that fear surrounding AI typically stems from a business perspective. Indeed, Baker admits that AI can produce content at a superior pace compared to humans. He states, "There's no denying that AI can produce content quickly and effectively. However, this could lead to adverse reactions from creators."
Despite this, he remains optimistic, asserting that the rise of AI will ultimately drive people toward seeking authentic experiences. He envisions a future where individuals are more inclined to attend live performances, read books, and engage in genuine interactions rather than consume AI-generated content. "This is a good thing; it's a revolution," he concluded.
Baker's involvement with emerging technologies isn't new. He previously ventured into the NFT space, promoting voice NFTs, which attracted considerable criticism. However, he appears undeterred as he continues to embrace innovative trends in the industry. This year, he will also lend his voice to the vintage Disney noir shooter, Mouse: PI for Hire, and Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
