We're only two weeks into 2026, but the new year hasn't been kind to Ubisoft employees. Following the closure of their Halifax studio and layoffs at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm, additional positions are reportedly being eliminated at Ubisoft Abu Dhabi.
Industry news outlets have revealed that several employees at the Abu Dhabi studio have been discussing these cuts on LinkedIn, with mentions of layoffs occurring as early as December 2025. Further investigation indicates a pattern, with former employees sharing their experiences online, suggesting a significant reshaping of the workforce, though it appears the studio will not be shut down entirely.
Founded in 2011, Ubisoft Abu Dhabi acts as the company’s Regional Hub for game development. The studio has notable contributions in mobile gaming, including titles like CSI: Hidden Crimes and the popular free-to-play MMO, Growtopia.
This recent wave of layoffs falls shortly after the announcement of a new partnership between Ubisoft and Tencent, which birthed Vantage Studios, tasked with overseeing the Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry franchises. It appears that studios not directly involved with these major franchises are facing the brunt of job cuts.
While Ubisoft's 2026 release schedule remains undefined, there are expectations for new triple-A titles currently in development. Fans are anticipating the remakes of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, alongside rumors of a definitive edition of the original Division game.
