Unlock the Secrets to Catching Larvitar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Larvitar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon known for evolving into Tyranitar, a formidable addition to any team. If you're eager to catch Larvitar early or aim for an Alpha version for an even stronger Tyranitar, you're in luck. Larvitar can be found in several locations across Lumiose City!

Here's a comprehensive guide on where to find Larvitar, including the sought-after Alpha Larvitar location.

Finding Larvitar in Pokémon Legends Z-A

Larvitar can be located in Wild Zone 15 and on various rooftops in the game. You can access Wild Zone 15 only after completing Main Mission 19, so knowing the right spots can give you an advantage early on.

Larvitar's Wild Zone 15 Details

Wild Zone 15 is a key area where you can find Larvitar both during the day and night. Be prepared, as you may not spot it immediately due to other Pokémon distractions.

The entrance to reach Larvitar is from the rooftops of Wild Zone 15, which you can only access after completing Side Mission 80 - A Shocking Territorial Dispute. This mission becomes available after defeating Lebanne in Main Mission 26 and requires you to head to Hibernal Avenue at the Holovator situated north of Café Kizuna.

Upon completing this side mission, take the Holovator to the upper level, then maneuver to the left to reach the rooftop entrance. You'll need to use a Fire-type move to clear a spiderweb before encountering two Larvitars ranging from Level 40 to 42.

Rooftop Discovery

In addition to the rooftop in Wild Zone 15, I've identified two other rooftop Larvitar locations. One is located in Rouge Sector 7; climb the ladder north of the battle court. After reaching the roof, walk towards the northern edge to find a pile of boxes leading to another Larvitar, typically around Level 22.

Alpha Larvitar Location in Pokémon Legends Z-A

The Alpha Larvitar can be found atop a specific rooftop in Bleu Sector 7, directly south across from Wild Zone 12. Here, you can also find TM 58 Iron Head.

To access this exclusive Larvitar, climb the scaffolding near Nouveau Café (Truck No. 2). Follow the rooftop around to cross over to another building.

After ascending the ladder to your left, you’ll come upon a small roof garden, which houses Alpha Larvitar. This Alpha Pokémon is Level 31 and vulnerable to Water and Grass-type moves, as well as Fighting, Ground, Ice, and Steel-type attacks. It's wise to catch Alpha Larvitar without depleting its health entirely, considering that its hit points could reset with the change of day.

Evolving Larvitar in Pokémon Legends Z-A

To evolve Larvitar, reach Level 30, which transforms it into Pupitar. Follow this up by evolving Pupitar into the powerful Tyranitar at Level 55.

For those who wish to speed up this evolution process, utilizing Exp. Candy or Rare Candies can be very effective. Thankfully, Larvitar and Pupitar do not require any special conditions for evolution.

Best of luck on your journey to catch Larvitar! After securing it, consider expanding your Pokédex in Legends: Z-A or seek out more Mega Stones and TM locations.
